PLACES TO VISIT IN ATHENS
Athens certainly has a lot of intriguing places that you will highly enjoy. By staying at the NJV Athens Plaza you are going to find yourself within walking distance from the majority of them. Alternatively, you can use any means of transportation to reach the suburbs of Athens or any other places of interest within the vicinity.
One of the places you should definitely visit while in Athens is the historical district. The picturesque paved streets, the lovely taverns with the delicious traditional cuisine dishes, the cozy bars, the galleries, the cultural centers, the museums, the old churches and the ancient monuments bedazzle the eye of the beholder. Especially during the winter, the heart of the Athenian night life beats in Psyrri, Thiseio, Kerameikos, Gazi and Monastiraki, where visitors will find numerous big and smaller bars and clubs. All these areas are easily accessible from NJV Athens Plaza, even by foot. Actually, it’s not recommended to drive in the historical district, since parking is limited, after the unification of all the archeological sites and their transformation into pedestrian alleys.
Close to NJV Athens Plaza in the heart of Athens there are various places of special interest, like the National Gardens and Zappeio Hall. There are also many beautiful churches and museums (like the Byzantine, the Military – War and the Museum of Folk Art) that are definitely worth a visit. The National Gallery is also about 5 minutes by trolley or bus from the hotel and hosts exceptional permanent and temporary collections of prominent Greek and foreign artists.
The Lycabettus Hill is just across from the Acropolis. From there visitors will have the chance to enjoy the most scintillating, panoramic view of the Greek capital. The chapel of St. George is located atop the hill and was built on the 19th century. There is also a nice restaurant close by, where you can enjoy a gourmet candlelit dinner, under the stars. Access to the Lycabettus Hill is easy by car, bus and foot or even better by the funicular railway, which departs from Kolonaki.
Megaron Mousikis (Athens Concert Hall) is just 2 metro stops from NJV Athens Plaza and it constitutes a major cultural center. Famous artists and renowned orchestras have performed in its amazing state-of-the-art halls, while numerous unforgettable concerts of dancing and theater have attracted thousands of visitors.
