The city of Athens boasts a number of museums of high archaeological, historical, cultural and religious importance, which are mainly scattered downtown.
The New Acropolis Museum
The New Acropolis Museum is the flagship of the country’s museums. It opened its doors to the public in June 2009 and since then it was been visited by millions of people from all over the world, not only for the masterpieces it hosts but also for the splendid architecture. All the sculptures, which are mainly from the Acropolis archeological site, are placed in a way that makes them seem like they are floating. The view is breathtaking from the vast well lighted halls.
